The Mind Body Awareness Project is expanding in new and exciting ways this year, and are happy to bring the MBA curriculum to 2 unique and innovative school programs in Oakland.
Bridge Academy is a small community school that is part of Alameda County Court and Community Schools program. This school is designed for students exiting the juvenile detention and other alternative placement programs in Oakland. We are currently conducting a 10 week pilot program to support these students to gain new skills as they transition out of the restrictive environment of juvenile hall and back into their communities. Youth are often most vulnerable when they are back in their home communities, encountering the same triggers and pitfalls that led them to juvenile hall in the first place. We are excited to foster this collaboration, and to expand the continuum of care and service we offer to high risk adolescents both in the hall and out, offering tools to gain greater self awareness, increase self regulation and reduce stress.
Leadership Public Schools is a charter school system with 4 campuses throughout the Bay Area in San Jose, Hayward, Richmond and Oakland. We are conducting a 5 week pilot program bringing the MBA mindfulness curriculum to the LPS Oakland Research and Development campus, located on the site of Castlemont High School. LPS Oakland is a tuition free public charter high school that aims to provide a small, safe school environment focusing on developing their students as leaders in their communities while preparing them for college. LPS received a school culture grant and decided that bringing mindfulness onto the campus was an important focus for the grant. We are delighted to be a part of bringing the many benefits of mindfulness and meditation to the students on the Leadership Public Schools campus in Oakland, and the possibilities to coordinate on the Research and Development aspect of the work MBA and LPS is doing to support the young people we serve.
