Organizational Trainings

1. Using Mindfulness with At-Risk Youth

In this 6-hour training, participants will receive a general overview of mindfulness facilitation with high risk youth. Topics include how to establish a safe container in order to best facilitate openness and engagement, an intro to the basics of mindfulness, including benefits and potential risks, and how to work with resistance if it arises in the group. Through a combination of both didactic and experiential exercises, participants will come away with concrete tools to help facilitate mindfulness based interventions when working one to one or in a group. (Training manual will be available for all participants)

Objectives:

—Learn concrete tools and techniques to introduce mindful self awareness and emotional literacy to youth
—Understand specific ways to structure a group to help increase authenticity and reduce resistance
—Learn three foundational principles important for establishing a mindfulness program with youth
—Gain confidence when introducing embodied self-awareness to at-risk youth

Who would benefit:

—Teachers, school administrators, and youth workers
—Therapists, counselors, and clinicians
—Juvenile justice workers

Cost: For entire Bay Area agencies, cost is $2,000 for 30 people (sliding scale available).


2. Mindfulness, Trauma, and At-Risk Youth

In this 6-hour training, participants will learn about the physical, mental, and emotional effects of trauma- its origins and symptoms in the context of attachment theory, the window of tolerance, and the newest findings on trauma and attachment based on the work of leading experts. Participants will learn to recognize the symptoms of stress, anger, or burnout in themselves (also known as secondary trauma or compassion fatigue), as well as recognize and respond to the symptoms of trauma in the youth they serve in a mindful way. Facilitators will lead participants through both experiential and didactic exercises how to use mindfulness-based, trauma-informed interventions. (Training manual will be available for all participants)

Objectives:

—Learn about the foundations, effects, and benefits of mindfulness
—Understand the physical, mental and emotional aspects of trauma
—Understand the benefits of mindfulness in addressing and mitigating effects of stress and trauma
—Learn specific ways that staff can incorporate mindful awareness to help themselves and the youth they serve

—Teachers, school administrators, and youth workers
—Therapists, counselors, and clinicians
—Juvenile justice workers

3. Mindfulness, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Conflict Resolution Workshop

Let MBA come to your community or educational center for this experiential daylong workshop aimed at young people in a community or organizational setting! During this 6 hour intensive, group members will be introduced to the basics of mindfulness, with other specific topics to be including: secondary trauma & self care, emotional awareness, listening and communication skills, dealing with conditioning and reactivity as both youth & youth service providers. Workshop will include both didactic and experiential learning.

Objectives:

—Orient both staff and youth to the concept of mindfulness, it’s uses and benefits
—Understand the effects or stress and trauma and how meditation helps mitigate these effects
—Understand the role that empathy and lack of empathy plays in our lives and how it affects relationships
—Learn both mindful communication and active listening skills

Who would benefit:

—Teachers, school administrators, and youth workers
—Therapists, counselors, and clinicians
—Any youth between the ages of 14-18

Cost: $2,000 for maximum 40 youth/youth service providers (sliding scale available).
