Over the summer and fall of 2013, MBA will offer 4 continuing education daylong trainings geared toward mental health professionals working with high-risk adolescents. Individuals interested in learning how to incorporate mindfulness into both group and individual work should apply. In the Spring of 2013, MBA partnered with the Department of Alcohol Tobacco and Drug Intervention and Prevention of Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) to begin providing mindfulness-based substance abuse services to high-risk and post-incarcerated youth. On April 27, 2013, MBA’s Executive Director, Sam Himelstein, facilitated an opening meditation for the culmination of the Peace Celebration, a month-long series of 13 events, organized by Contra Costa College staff, which highlighted topics of meditation, stress, safety and immigration status, all in an effort to promote peace.
